Regulatory agencies overseeing gas drilling in Marcellus Shale

Delaware River Basin: The Delaware River Basin Commission oversees water withdrawals, well pad siting and wastewater disposal activities related to all natural gas development projects in the Basin.

Susquehanna River Basin: The Susquehanna River Basin Commission regulates water withdrawals for use in natural gas development in the Basin.

Maryland: The Minerals, Oil and Gas Division within Maryland's Department of the Environment oversees Marcellus Shale gas development.

New York: New York's Department of Environmental Conservation, Division of Mineral Resources oversees gas drilling in the state.

Pennsylvania: The Bureau of Oil & Gas Management within Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection regulates gas drilling in the commonwealth.

Ohio: Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mineral Resources Management regulates shale gas drilling in the state. For more information on Marcellus and Utica Shale gas development, see ODNR Geological Survey.

Virginia: Marcellus Shale gas drilling in Virginia is regulated by the Division of Gas and Oil within the Virginia's Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy.

West Virginia
: West Virginia's Department of Environmental Protection, Office of Oil & Gas is responsible for regulating gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale.
