Regulatory agencies overseeing gas drilling in Marcellus Shale
Delaware
River Basin: The Delaware River Basin Commission oversees water
withdrawals, well pad siting and wastewater disposal activities related
to all natural gas development projects in the Basin.
Susquehanna
River Basin: The Susquehanna River Basin Commission regulates water
withdrawals for use in natural gas development in the Basin.
Maryland:
The Minerals, Oil and Gas Division within Maryland's Department of the
Environment oversees Marcellus Shale gas development.
New
York: New York's Department of Environmental Conservation, Division
of Mineral Resources oversees gas drilling in the state.
Pennsylvania:
The Bureau of Oil & Gas Management within Pennsylvania's Department
of Environmental Protection regulates gas drilling in the commonwealth.
Ohio:
Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mineral Resources
Management regulates shale gas drilling in the state. For more information

Virginia:
Marcellus Shale gas drilling in Virginia is regulated by the Division
of Gas and Oil within the Virginia's Department of Mines, Minerals and
Energy.
West Virginia: West Virginia's Department of Environmental Protection,
Office of Oil & Gas is responsible for regulating gas drilling in
the Marcellus Shale.
